Be Filled with the Spirit

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the spirit  -Ephesians 5:18

We thank God for the gift of His Holy Spirit, who has worked a miracle of redemption within our lives that enables us to walk among people as children of God.

Most people today believe that there is a God, but many will admit that they have never felt His presence. Their belief in God is an intellectual, impersonal acknowledgement that there must be a God out there somewhere.

Some churches today are filled with busy, hardworking people who view their vows as practical and urgent.  They may give their tithes and offerings, read their Bibles, visit, witness, and even preach without power or conviction. We are often too busy doing things for God---rather than allowing God to do things through us. Too often our faith is intellectual and our works mechanical. What we need is a spiritual relationship with God. This relationship comes only through the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts and in our lives.

The Holy Spirit is a person, not a thing or it. The Holy Spirit comes into the heart of the believer in the experience of conversion. 1 John 4:13 says, "Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of his spirit." Christians don't have to pray for the Holy Spirit to come into their hear. He is already there. He may dwell only in a small corner of your heart because you have crowded Him out, but if you are a child of God, He dwells in your heart; He is already there.

Christians are commanded to be filled with the Holy Spirit. This is a step, an experience beyond the presence of the Holy Spirit, in our lives through salvation. Our usefulness, our joy, our peace of mind, our boldness, and our effectiveness depend on availing ourselves to the Holy Spirit, and the use of the Holy Spirit. Will you say, "Lord, I'm available to You ;use me Lord."?
